This week is flying by! I cannot believe it is already Thursday and I am so ready for the weekend. This week and next both hold a lot of work travel for me, including big site visits and presentations so I am feeling more stressed than normal which often leads to intense chocolate and carbs cravings… The struggle is real!
Focusing on the highlights of this week rather than bore you with the details, the best parts of Monday were OrangeTheory, sunshine, and happy hour on the porch after work with Adam’s coworkers before they headed to an Iowa Cubs game. Adam’s office is only a couple minutes (literally… two) from our house and his department team was going to the game at 7pm so rather than everyone go their separate ways and drive separately to the game, they met at our house, had a couple drinks and some snacks, thought about playing yard games (which didn’t actually happen… it was too hot for that!), and then carpooled to the game.
Adam’s coworkers are pretty awesome humans. Despite the frequent work talk, they try to always keep me included (I am often the only non-agriculture person present!). I was happy to hang out with them for a couple hours before retreating into the AC to make dinner, watch the Good Wife, and go to bed early. I was passed out hours before Adam made it home from the game!
Tuesday morning also started with a 5am OrangeTheory class (yep, I am a little addicted and actually getting used to this 5am thing!). It kicked my butt and I was a sweaty mess by the end, luckily Instagram filters hide the tomato face!
That night Adam and I had a game with our beach volleyball team. I always fail to take pictures of our game, team, or location… sand + electronics do not mix well for me so my phone stays far away but the team is made up of Adam’s coworkers and me (told you I am often the outsider!). We aren’t good but we have fun and have won 2 of our 3 games so I guess we aren’t too terrible either! Note: we are in the beginner bracket… don’t be too impressed.
After the game a few of us went out to dinner. I had fish and chips and a blue moon. The sun had completely drained me and I was feeling sore from that morning but it’s amazing how some food and good conversation can perk you right up!
We drove Adam’s jeep to the game, which was awesome there but borderline miserable returning… the temperature drops quickly when the sun goes down and we were both freezing by the time we made it home! Next time: sweatpants AND sweatshirt!
I was excited to receive my Beachbody box when I got home full of goodies! I was talked into trying out some Beachbody workouts and Shakeology by an awesome girl I met through Instagram. I am a little intimidated right now by the options but there must be something to it since to many great people swear by the program! Wish me luck!
Wednesday I was up bright and early for work and had to push my OTF workout to the afternoon. We had a site visit meeting in a small town on the Mississippi River at 10am and a nearly 3 hour drive to get there. I picked up my coworkers at the office and we started our journey at 7am!
Burlington was beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for a better day to meet the city representatives and talk to them about some of the initiatives in the historic and riverfront district. If you live in Iowa, or anywhere in the midwest, and are looking for a “small city” vibe, I recommend checking out Burlington. The downtown is very walkable and they are working on making their riverfront a wonderful community hub. I am excited to see the changes over the next few years!
3 hours southeast, 2 hour meeting, 1 hour lunch, 3 hours back to the office = LONG DAY. I went straight from dropping off the rental to OTF for a workout and was happy to get some of my stress out on the bike and rower. After OTF I was famished (Anyone else hungry immediately after a hard workout??) and went home to start prepping dinner. I made a Blue Apron meal of spicy mushroom and summer squash tacos. While I cooked, Adam mowed the lawn. We are so domestic!
I managed to get to OTF this morning at 5am but immediately regretted it. Turns out that a OTF workout at 4:30pm and then again at 5am is not enough time to recover. I am feeling sore and drained so happily taking tomorrow off (I can’t fit in a morning workout anyway since I have to travel for work). Thursday at work has been all about preparation for the next 5 work days out of the office. I have a presentation at a summit out of town tomorrow and then next Monday – Thursday I have site visits across the state. Exciting and busy time for the program I manage!
After work I coxed for two different 8+ boats at crew. The first was a mixed crew who had never rowed together (they tend to be thrown together at the last minute, if at all, and never have consistent rowers). Regardless, it was nice to be on the water. The later boat is my standard women group that I so love to work with a few times a week! I will cox them again on Saturday morning. They are all very solid rowers and take instruction very well. I can trust them so it makes for a more enjoyable row.
After crew I finally made it home, had leftovers for dinner, and now I am finishing up this post! Now bed and up early tomorrow to go present in Fort Dodge before biking and bar hopping on Friday night with Adam. Final countdown to the weekend!
- Do you hang out with your coworkers after work? Adam’s hang out all the time but mine rarely do (with the exception of this upcoming weekend)
- What are your favorite small towns to visit? Or do you live in a small town??
