So excited to finally be writing my first post! I have been researching and planning this kick-off for about a month. I have dabbled in blogging before but never really did the research or made the commitment. This time feels different. This time I have researched, I have taken notes on what I enjoy about my favorite lifestyle bloggers, and I have decided that this is both something that I can do as well as something I should do for myself. I have been craving a creative and expressive outlet and blogging seems like the perfect answer!
Now, there felt like a lot of pressure for the first post to be awesome. But after a few weeks of stressing over it, I decided to just dive right into the type of blog this is going to be: a little bit of everything! My posts will be a collection of my daily adventures, both the exciting and the simple days. I will include my exercise regime, recipes I try out, travels, and restaurant reviews.
So here goes nothing!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I am spending this weekend alone with the pups. My boyfriend, Adam, is in Florida with some of his high school friends. If I am being completely honest, I have been looking forward to this weekend for a long time. Not because I don’t love hanging out with my boyfriend, but just to have some extended time to myself. To watch my tv shows (I am so far behind on Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal!!), go on a long run, take the dog to the park, and relax in the sunshine. I am sure by Monday I will be ready for the company but this has been the perfect Saturday morning.
I started today off by “sleeping in” and waking up at 6:45am to feed the dogs before heading to OrangeTheory Fitness for the 7:30am class. I actually woke up around 5:45 and forced myself to go back to sleep. Sad that my body automatically thinks I should be already up and working out (my weekly OrangeTheory class is at 5am).
OrangeTheory was tough today! I have been using the bike instead of the treadmill for the past few weeks to recover from shin splints. And now I am using the bike as training for Ragbrai in late July. I’ll include more on Ragbrai in a separate post later. It is tough for me to get my heart rate up on the bike compared to the treadmill. My legs will be BURNING and my heart is still chilling in the green. (If you aren’t familiar with OrangeTheory, I will also include a post on that later but it is an AWESOME workout and I HIGHLY recommend it.) I didn’t hit the splat points “goal” of 12 points in the orange despite my best efforts, but I burned over 550 calories so I still count it as a successful workout.
After OTF I treated myself to a Starbucks since I had a freebie. Quad venti, 2.5 pumps of syrup, non-fat, no whip mocha. YUM. Just what I was craving. I then came home and prepped the rest of my breakfast: green smoothie and a half slice of avocado toast paired with a half slice of peanut butter toast with honey. I am currently on day 6 of the simple green smoothie Aaptiv challenge. This smoothie had kale, a whole orange, frozen mango, and frozen pineapple. I am learning to love the simplicity of a green smoothie and with our garden, I will have plenty of kale and spinach all summer!
With breakfast prepped, I settled in to set up the blog and have been working on it all morning! I am counting on a pretty steep learning curve as I familiarize myself with WordPress and all the jargon associated with a website… but so far I think I am doing ok! Most importantly I figured out how to create my “About Me” page and now my first post. Basically, I am now a pro! (You’ll quickly learn that I am pretty sarcastic and I love nothing more than to make fun of myself!)
Looking forward to adding a second, third, fourth, and more posts to this blog! This new adventure is exciting and scary. There is nothing more freeing and vulnerable than sharing your life story on the internet. But I am looking forward to the process and hope to get to know myself and meet new people through this format.
