Last week I ate out with my friend Anna at one of my favorite local spots, Flavory Bistro! We had such a fantastic experience and I wanted to share why this spot should be on every central Iowan’s list for great home-cooked Greek food!
Flavory is located in the new District area of Ankeny, across from New American Brewery and just a few doors down from Fong’s Pizza. It is a small and unassuming indoor space. You can enter from the front or back and they have about ten tables and a small bar area. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are hit with the most delicious smells and a smile from the owner. This family-owned and run spot has a large menu for the size of the space and everything is made to order. I almost always have the falafel gyro because it is just so good!
The first time Adam and I went to Flavory we split the Mediterranean Platter (see top photo!) and it was fantastic! A ton of food but every bite was amazing. We took a lot of it home and it lasted another couple days! The gyros are always wonderful and large. I have to use a fork and knife when I eat there but that way I can get a little bit of everything in every bite! The falafel is served with tzatziki and hummus, both of which are made in house and fantastic. Last week Anna had the chicken alfredo which is made with a yogurt sauce and she raved about it. Not too heavy but amazing flavor, definitely a good option for someone who is not in the mood for more traditional Greek food.
If you live in the Des Moines area and have not tried Flavory, I really recommend making the trip. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the food is wonderful. You will not regret it!
